Audi e-tron(2019-2023) Used Buyer's Guide

The Audi e-tron is hushed, plush and beautifully built, but it gets through battery power quite quickly and doesn’t feel very engaging to drive.

Overview

The Audi e-tron was designed to feel like an Audi first, EV second. It succeeded in delivering premium comfort and quality but at the cost of efficiency.

For those wanting a luxury electric SUV that feels conventional and refined, the e-tron delivers. Just accept the range limitations.

Performance & Drive

In town

The e-tron is large but manageable. Excellent cameras and sensors help with parking. The ride quality is superb — this is one of the most comfortable EVs made.

On the motorway

Exceptional refinement. Near-silent, supremely comfortable, and completely relaxed at any speed. This is the e-tron's natural habitat.

However, range drops dramatically at motorway speeds. Expect 180-200 miles from a full charge at consistent 70mph.

On a twisty road

Not engaging. It's heavy and doesn't encourage spirited driving. The S version adds power but doesn't fundamentally change the character. This is a cruiser, not a sports car.

Space & Practicality

Front seats

Outstanding. The seats are comfortable, supportive, and beautifully finished. The dashboard is unmistakably Audi — quality materials throughout.

Rear seats

Good space for the class. Three adults can fit, though the high floor (batteries) raises the seating position.

Interior & Tech

Interior quality

This is the e-tron's trump card. The interior is exceptional — arguably the best in any EV. Real leather, metal, high-quality plastics, and impeccable assembly.

The dual-screen MMI system works well and feels premium.

Virtual mirrors

Cameras replace door mirrors, displaying images on interior screens. Distinctive but divisive — some love them, others find them difficult to use. More efficient but not legally required.

Range & Charging

Real-world range

The e-tron is inefficient:

e-tron 55252-259 miles190-220 miles150-180 miles
e-tron S218 miles160-190 miles130-160 miles

Efficiency averages 2.4-2.9 miles per kWh — significantly below Tesla or Hyundai rivals.

DC rapid charging

Max DC speed150kW
10-80% time~30 minutes

150kW charging is competitive. The flat charging curve maintains good speed throughout.

Reliability & Common Problems

The e-tron is relatively reliable. It uses proven Audi engineering and avoids complexity.

The Verdict

7
/10

The bottom line

The Audi e-tron (2019-2023) is the most premium-feeling electric SUV. If interior quality, comfort, and refinement matter more than efficiency and range, it's excellent.

However, the efficiency penalty is significant. Running costs are higher than rivals, and range anxiety is more likely.

For luxury-focused buyers who don't prioritise maximum range, the e-tron delivers traditional Audi excellence in electric form.
