Overview
The Mercedes EQA is the entry point to Mercedes' electric range. Based on the GLA platform (not a bespoke EV architecture), it offers Mercedes luxury in a compact, accessible package.
Model variants:
| Version | Motors | Power | Range (WLTP) | 0-62mph |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EQA 250 | RWD | 188hp | 260 miles | 8.6s |
| EQA 250+ | RWD | 188hp | 306 miles | 8.6s |
| EQA 300 4MATIC | AWD | 228hp | 267 miles | 7.7s |
| EQA 350 4MATIC | AWD | 292hp | 262 miles | 6.0s |
Key changes:
| Year | Changes |
|---|---|
| 2021 | UK launch |
| 2022 | EQA 250+ extended range version |
| 2023 | Minor updates |
The 250+ with its extended range is the sweet spot. The 4MATIC versions add performance but reduce range.
Performance & Drive
In town
Excellent urban manners. The EQA is compact and easy to manoeuvre. The steering is light, visibility is good, and it feels smaller than it is.
On the motorway
Refined and comfortable in typical Mercedes fashion. Road and wind noise are well-controlled. The ride is compliant and relaxed.
On a twisty road
Competent but not exciting. The EQA prioritises comfort over handling. It's based on a combustion platform, and the weight distribution isn't as optimal as bespoke EVs.
The 350 4MATIC adds performance but doesn't transform the driving experience.
Space & Practicality
Front seats
Comfortable Mercedes seats with good adjustment. The interior quality is excellent — this feels like a proper Mercedes inside.
Rear seats
Tight. The compact dimensions mean limited rear space. Adults will feel cramped on longer journeys.
| Measurement | Space |
|---|---|
| Rear legroom | Tight |
| Rear headroom | Adequate |
| Rear width | 2-3 adults cramped |
Boot space
At 340 litres, the boot is disappointing. The battery intrudes into cargo space. This is the EQA's main weakness.
| Configuration | Capacity |
|---|---|
| Boot | 340 litres |
| Seats folded | ~1,320 litres |
No frunk is available.
Interior & Tech
Interior quality
This is where the EQA shines. The interior is unmistakably Mercedes — premium materials, excellent build quality, and sophisticated design.

The Verdict
The bottom line
The Mercedes EQA (2021-2023) brings genuine Mercedes quality to the compact EV segment. The interior is excellent, the ride is comfortable, and the brand cachet is real.
However, the small boot and limited rear space are significant compromises. It's based on a combustion platform, and the efficiency shows.
For those prioritising Mercedes luxury in a compact package, it delivers. For pure practicality, look elsewhere.
