BMW i4(2021-2023) Used Buyer's Guide

The BMW i4 is fast, polished and great to drive, but rear-seat space is tight and it doesn’t feel quite as roomy as some electric alternatives.

Performance & Drive

In town

Comfortable and refined. The i4 feels like a traditional BMW in urban environments — comfortable, well-built, and effortless.

On the motorway

Excellent. Refined cruising with proper BMW composure. The eDrive40's 365-mile range is among the best available, making long motorway journeys genuinely practical.

On a twisty road

This is where the i4 excels. It's the most driver-focused electric saloon available. The steering has weight and feedback, the chassis is balanced and responsive, and it genuinely rewards enthusiastic driving.

The M50 is properly quick — 536hp and 3.9 seconds to 62mph. The eDrive40 is the sweeter handler thanks to its rear-wheel drive layout and lighter weight.

Space & Practicality

Front seats

Excellent sports seats in a premium cabin. The interior quality is high — this feels like a proper BMW.

Rear seats

Adequate but the Gran Coupe roofline limits headroom. Legroom is acceptable for adults.

The bottom line

The BMW i4 (2021-2023) is the best driver's car among electric saloons. It delivers genuine BMW dynamics while offering excellent range and fast charging.

The controversial grille and combustion-based platform are compromises. But for driving enthusiasts wanting an electric BMW, the i4 is excellent.
