MG MG4(2022-2023) Used Buyer's Guide

The MG4 is great value, good fun to drive and well equipped, but the boot isn’t huge and some versions feel a bit plain inside.

Performance & Drive

In town

Easy and manoeuvrable. The turning circle is excellent, visibility is good, and the instant torque helps in traffic.

On the motorway

Comfortable enough for a value hatchback. Wind noise is present; refinement is acceptable. Range holds up well, especially Extended Range.

On a twisty road

Surprisingly good. The rear-wheel drive gives it genuine character — it actually enjoys being driven enthusiastically. The XPOWER is genuinely fast but overkill for most.

Space & Practicality

Front seats

Adequate comfort. The seats are supportive, and space is good. Interior quality is functional — not premium, but acceptable.

Rear seats

Good rear space for the segment — better than some rivals.

Boot space

At 363 litres, the boot is smaller than it should be given the car's footprint. The floor is high.

Interior & Tech

Interior quality

Functional rather than premium. Plastics are hard, design is plain, but it's perfectly acceptable for the price. Don't expect VW ID.3 levels of materials.

The Verdict

The bottom line

The MG4 (2022-2023) offers remarkable value. It competes with cars costing significantly more and adds genuine driving fun with its rear-wheel drive layout.

Interior quality is the compromise — it's functional, not premium. But for those prioritising value and driving engagement, the MG4 delivers.
